Housing, and rehoming friendly companion rats
Our mission is simple: give rats a safe place, room to act like real rats, and the kind of care that helps them relax and grow.
We use a hands-on, natural approach to husbandry — real soil for digging, earthworms and beneficial nematodes to keep the substrate healthy, tunnels for exploring, and pockets of mushroom mycelium that help balance their ecosystems.
With good food and handling, we aim to help every rat settle in and eventually move on to a permanent home.
Rats here get handled every day by adults, kids. They’re used to normal household sounds and activity, and they’re comfortable being picked up, held, and interacted with. They also live in social groups, so they stay confident, and people-friendly.
The cages are built as small bioactive environments. They use layered soil, peat moss, clay, sand, and other natural substrates, plus earthworms, beneficial nematodes, mushroom mycelia, and several types of pill bugs. All of this works together to break down waste and keep the habitat healthy.
Rats instinctively dig and feel safer when they have underground spaces to retreat into. These setups let them tunnel, build pockets, and create their own little territories. Because the system manages a lot of the waste on its own, the cages can stay stable for much longer without full clean-outs, which keeps the rats calmer and reduces stress, odor, and disease risk.
We keep track of each rat’s general health, behavior, and routine. New arrivals are watched for eating, movement, breathing, interactions with other rats, and any signs of stress or illness. Notes are logged as they settle in so we know how they’re adjusting over time. This helps us catch issues early and gives every rat a clear record leading up to adoption.
Adoption. Matching rats to good homes.
People adopting from us get real guidance on housing, bonding, and feeding. The goal is simple: good homes, good setups, and rats that stay happy once they leave here.
